IOM Launches WeChat APP for Chinese Migrants Going to Europe

Last week, IOM Director General William Lacy Swing was in Beijing on his last visit to China, as he will step down as Director General of IOM later this year.  Ambassador Swing officially launched the IOM “WeChat APP”, which provides Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) to Chinese workers migrating to Europe.

The WeChat APP known as 赴欧贴士” in Chinese and coined as “Destination Europe”, is a WeChat-based function embedded in the IOM China official WeChat account. The APP gives an overview of the European Union, key information on its 28 Member States and detailed sections on Austria, Germany and Italy - three key destinations in Europe for Chinese migrant workers. The goal is to offer Chinese labour migrants a flavour of everyday life in three EU destination countries in a simple and user-friendly way. The APP was financed under the EU Partnership Instrument funded EU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Programme (MMSP) implemented jointly by IOM and ILO.

IOM is committed to ensuring that migrants are equipped with essential information to prepare for their journey before they leave China, and their integration once they arrive in their country of destination in Europe. Access to the WeChat APP is by following the IOM CHINA Official WECHAT account( QR code below).  The APP aims to place key information in the hands of Chinese migrants related to their journey, starting from China through their eventual integration in a host European country.
